The Liner Hanger securely anchors a liner in the wall of a previous casing string. Liner hangers are available in a range of sizes and specifications to suit a variety of conditions, including onshore and offshore wells, HPHT environments and high hanging capacity requirements.
The Liner Hanger is made up of a mandrel, and one or more sets of slips and cone pads. Different models can be set mechanically or hydraulically. A Liner Hanger is typically run with a Liner Top Packer to make up a Liner Hanger System.
• HPHT models rated up to 15,000 psi (103.42 MPa) and 450°F (232°C)
• Variety of slip designs available to effectively match downhole conditions
• Slips designed to maximize bypass flow area
• Wide range of tool sizes
• Mechanical and hydraulic-set models available
• Functionality to rotate while cementing available
In rare occasions, due to a variety of reasons, liner hanger packers can fail or leak. Some of the more common reasons for packer damage are:
• Excessive annular velocities from running speeds or pump rates
• Debris, scale, or solids across packer sealing area causing hanger skidding or ineffective seal
• Packer damage when running through BOP
• Casing wear at setting depth
• Exceeding technical or pressure ratings of selected liner hanger and packer
• Casing metallurgy or ID installed differs from specification provided
The liner top repair system utilizes a liner packer primarily run on drill pipe to repair a liner lap leak or in monobore liner top completions. The packer can also be run when tying back a liner to surface or scabbing across damaged casing above the liner.
The Liner Repair Packer operates using a mechanical or hydraulic setting tool and a liner setting sleeve with a polished bore receptacle (PBR) extension. The straight slack off weight setting mechanism eliminates pipe rotation, hydraulic setting ports and plugs or balls to set the packer.
• Forms a pressure tight seal between the annulus of the casing and the liner
• Slips anchor the packer to prevent movement during operations
• Elastomer and metal seal elements ensure sealing integrity
• Wide range of tool sizes
• Compatible with range of casing weights
• Double-grip slips available to handle high tensile or compressive forces
• HPHT models available
