The Riser Junk Basket is a deepwater magnet that captures and retrieves metal debris dislodged during riser cleaning operations, especially when annular velocity in the riser may not be sufficient to carry large pieces of ferrous or nonferrous debris to the surface. The basket can be run above the Riser Validation Tool or another cleaning tool.
The Riser Junk Basket has several magnetic blades that are secured onto the outside diameter (OD) of the junk basket and attract metallic debris that falls from the riser. When a drop in annular velocity occurs above the tool, larger pieces of nonferrous debris fall out of the fluid flow into the junk basket.
